The Difference Between a Dentist and
an Orthodontist | What
Is Orthodontics?
People get braces for a variety of reasons. Some get them for aesthetic
concerns – they are simply unhappy with their current smile
and want to improve it. People who have had braces look better and often
have a higher self-esteem. They can live happier, healthier lives.
Others seek orthodontic treatment because they have functional problems.
Crowded, crooked, or excessive space between your teeth make them
hard to clean and can contribute to tooth decay, gum disease, and eventual
tooth loss.
Braces are designed for both children and adults. Over 40% of the
patients in Dr. Brown’s practice are over 18 years of age.
It is usually best to have orthodontic work done while you are young because your teeth and jaws move more easily. However, teeth can be
moved at any age as long as the teeth and their supporting tissues
are healthy.
